Susan Wojcicki, the CEO of YouTube, has declared her intention to leave the position after nine years. Neal Mohan, who is currently the chief product officer, will take over as the new head of YouTube to replace her. Wojcicki will continue to serve as an advisor to Google and Alphabet.
In a letter to YouTube employees, Wojcicki talked about how excited she was to start a new part of her life that will focus on her family, health, and personal goals. Given that YouTube has an outstanding leadership team in place, she feels that the time is right for her to leave her position as CEO. When Wojcicki first joined YouTube, he was one of the leaders she brought on board, and she is confident that he will be the one to steer the platform into the future.
YouTube’s Future
With all the work that YouTube is doing in areas like Shorts, streaming, and subscriptions, along with the promises of AI, Wojcicki believes that the most exciting opportunities for the company are still to come. She thinks Mohan is the ideal candidate to guide the business as it investigates and seizes these opportunities. She thanked them for establishing the largest creative economy in the world, supporting millions of creators and artists in their efforts to expand their fan bases while investing in responsible growth. The brilliant community of creators, artists, viewers, and advertisers, she continued, could not only coexist but also prosper as a unit.

Wojcicki’s Future Role
With Sundar Pichai’s approval, Wojcicki will serve as an advisor to all of the Alphabet companies, including Google. She will assist with the transition and provide short-term support for Mohan, coaching team members and meeting with creators. She will eventually draw on the various experiences she’s had over the years to provide advice and direction.
Wojcicki’s Background
Before joining YouTube, Wojcicki served as SVP of Google’s AdWords and AdSense, where she oversaw marketing, co-founded Google Image Search, oversaw the development of Google’s first video and book searches, and contributed to the early stages of AdSense’s development. She will be able to use her vast experience in her new advisory role to give Google and the other Alphabet companies wise advice and direction.
