During the 2023 Meta Connect event, Meta introduced a slew of AI-driven features, ushering in the era of ‘Meta AI’. This new AI assistant will be integrated into Meta’s suite of applications, particularly WhatsApp, to enhance user interactions.
The AI, designed using a specialized model influenced by Llama 2 and Meta’s own research into Large Language Models, aims to mimic human-like conversations. In collaboration with Microsoft Bing, it also includes capabilities for fetching real-time data, adding depth to its conversational skills.
A key highlight of Meta AI is its image creation capability, which allows users to generate realistic images from text commands entered as ‘@MetaAI /imagine’ followed by the text prompt. This feature is aimed at making digital chats more visually engaging.
Currently available only in the U.S., Meta AI promises to be a versatile tool, useful for tasks ranging from providing recommendations and entertainment to resolving disputes and sharing information.
Meta also demonstrated Meta AI’s practical applications during the event by showing how it could be used for tasks like suggesting mocktail recipes, indicating its everyday utility.
Interacting with Meta AI: Users can access Meta AI on WhatsApp by clicking the Meta AI icon located at the bottom right of the app. This opens the Meta AI inbox where queries can be made or image generation can be requested.
In addition to Meta AI, the company announced the creation of 28 other AI assistants and revealed partnerships with celebrities like Kendall Jenner, MrBeast, and Snoop Dogg. These celebrities now have AI profiles on Instagram and Facebook for more tailored fan interactions.
Furthermore, Meta is introducing AI stickers for WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook Stories. These stickers, which are similar to Snapchat’s Bitmoji, allow users to customize their visual communications. Initially available to a select group of English-speaking users, this feature will expand creative possibilities across Meta’s platforms.
