Singapore, 15 August 2024 – TikTok recently hosted the grand finals of its first-ever multi-market hackathon, TikTok TechJam 2024, in Singapore, marking a significant milestone in the platform’s commitment to nurturing tech talent across the region. The event, held on 8 August, brought together 102 student teams from leading universities in Singapore and Southeast Asia, challenging them to push the boundaries of technology and creativity by developing solutions to contemporary business challenges.
Fostering Innovation and Tech Talent
As one of TikTok’s global talent hubs, Singapore plays a crucial role in the platform’s strategy to develop local and regional tech expertise. Through initiatives like TikTok TechJam, the platform is actively contributing to Singapore’s ambition to become a global hub for AI and innovation. The participating teams were tasked with identifying how technology could address various pressing issues, including privacy protection, payment security, AI-driven content creation, and hyper-personalized shopping experiences.
The hackathon also featured a series of technical workshops, including a guest lecture on AI in collaboration with AI Singapore (AISG), underscoring TikTok’s dedication to supporting the tech ecosystem.
Celebrating the Winners: Innovative Solutions with Real-World Impact
Emerging victorious was Team Ete from Singapore, who clinched the grand prize of US$10,000 with their innovative solution, AnonymousAds. This project enables companies to deliver targeted advertising using encrypted user data, effectively addressing the ongoing challenge of balancing profitability with user privacy on social media platforms.
The runner-up, HoneyBadgers, impressed judges with their Honey Badger Sales Helper, a tool designed to assist sales agents in their daily tasks. The third-place team, AiSL, created an AI-powered tool that enhances TikTok’s content creation experience for deaf creators by automatically generating captions, voice-overs, and emojis for videos with sign language.
Other noteworthy teams included EzSeek and ByteMe, who secured fourth and fifth places, respectively, and the People’s Choice Award winners: SnapSynch, Lockerism, and Signify.
