Known for its bite-sized video content, TikTok is now extending its creative suite with the introduction of text-based posts. The move aims to provide its users with more diverse means to express themselves and share their ideas.
TikTok, up till now, has been synonymous with captivating short video clips, with additional features like uploading photos, live streams, and responding to others’ posts through their unique Duet and Stitch formats. However, by introducing text-based posts, TikTok intends to “expand the boundaries of content creation”, offering a platform for written creativity that was previously confined to captions, comments, and videos.
According to the social media giant, it aims to make text posts as dynamic and interactive as possible, on par with its existing video and photo content formats. To do so, TikTok plans to allow users to customise their posts with sounds, diverse fonts and colours, and the ability to enable Duets.

Creating a text post is straightforward – users simply select the new ‘text’ option on the camera page, alongside the existing photo and video options. To further enhance the text post experience, users can include music, providing a rhythmic backdrop to their textual content.
Moreover, to ensure that text-based posts are as engaging as their multimedia counterparts, TikTok plans to incorporate features like stickers, tags, and hashtags to allow users to connect their content to relevant topics or trends.
In related news, as part of its ongoing efforts to expand its sound library, TikTok recently announced a partnership with Warner Music Group (WMG). The agreement licenses the catalogue of Warner Recorded Music and Warner Chappell Music to TikTok, TikTok Music, CapCut, and TikTok’s Commercial Music Library.
Excited about this new chapter, Robert Kyncl, CEO of WMG, expressed his anticipation about delivering greater value to WMG’s artists and songwriters, and TikTok’s users through their expanded partnership.
In an added move, TikTok Music, a music streaming service, was launched in closed beta in Australia, Mexico, and Singapore by tech company ByteDance. The platform is set to feature over a thousand artists and millions of tracks. Users interested in participating in the closed beta test can download the TikTok Music app, available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, or visit music.tiktok.com. The participants will be treated to a complimentary three-month trial period to test the service.
