Legendary rapper 50 Cent, christened Curtis Jackson, is embarking on a world tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his iconic album ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin’. This could likely be his last tour of this magnitude, as he juggles his blooming career in film and television with music.
The hip-hop icon, soon to appear alongside Sylvester Stallone in ‘Expendables 4,’ confessed he wouldn’t be able to undertake such grand touring in the future due to his growing commitments in film and TV. About a decade ago, 50 Cent made a strategic business decision, taking “a huge pay cut” to transition from music to television, most notably with the hit show ‘Power.’

“My audience is older. With my film and TV work I’m speaking to my core audience directly. I don’t want to lose them… They made me a success,” the rapper admitted.
Turning 48 this week, 50 Cent is setting out on the ‘Final Lap’ tour, which spans North America, Europe, Australasia, and potentially further into Asia. So far, the tour has sold over 600,000 tickets, but the ever-braggadocious ‘Fiddy’ downplays the achievement, jesting “it would be impressive for other guys, but I’m 50 Cent”.
The one factor that could tempt him back into touring would be if his old mentors, Eminem and Dr Dre, joined him on the road. “If I could get Em and Dre out the house, that would get me back touring but I don’t think that’ll happen,” he muses.
In February 2003, his debut album rocketed off the shelves, becoming one of the fastest-selling records of all time. Propelled by a riveting backstory of gangsterism, prison time, and an attempted assassination, the album’s debut single ‘In Da Club’ still enjoys tremendous popularity. Despite no new studio album since 2014, the rapper maintains his position at 114th on Spotify’s worldwide rankings.
A sudden rise to fame led Jackson to build a mini-empire, ranging from clothing lines, video games, health foods, fragrances, and his own high-end champagne and cognac. He recently settled a lawsuit with Remy Martin who accused him of copying their bottle design for his new cognac. However, he maintains that his product can compete with Remy Martin’s fabled Louis XIII vintage. “Jesus Christ would drink that shit,” he quips.
