On the eve of Tesla Malaysia’s highly-anticipated debut, the American EV giant has unveiled one of its first Supercharger locations situated at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. This fast-charging hub for electric vehicles (EVs) forms part of Tesla’s initiative to install a network of charging locations throughout Malaysia.
Tesla’s Supercharger stations at Pavilion KL can be found in the Level B1 basement car park, specifically at pillar C 21. Current inspection reveals the presence of eight high-speed chargers, with additional space hinting at four potential expansion bays. These Supercharger units, resembling Tesla’s V3 DC chargers, boast a high power output of 250kW and are equipped with a liquid cooling system.
As per Tesla’s official website, these Superchargers provide up to 270km of range with a mere 15-minute charge. This fast-charge capability will give Tesla owners a quick and convenient charging solution.
The Minister of Investment Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, has communicated that Tesla needs to install 50 DC chargers by 2026, with at least 15 of them being accessible to other EV models. Deploying a minimum of five stations at each Supercharger location, Tesla can effortlessly meet this mandate with just ten locations.
However, it remains uncertain whether the Superchargers at Pavilion KL will be accessible to non-Tesla vehicles at the launch.
Tesla has automated its Supercharging payments through the Tesla app, thereby ensuring a seamless charging experience for its users. Idle fees apply if a vehicle, after charging, continues to occupy a Supercharger. In a full-capacity scenario, these idle fees could potentially double.
In anticipation of its official launch, Tesla has released the pricing details for its Model Y. With prices starting from RM199,000 and soaring to RM288,000 for the high-performing AWD Model Y variant, the bookings have commenced with a non-refundable fee of RM1,000.
Delivery is expected to kick off early next year, and online bookers of the Tesla Model Y are set to receive a free home wall connector. However, Tesla’s official website does not confirm this detail upon booking.
