Led by cybersecurity veteran Vivek Ramachandran, SquareX is making strides in the realm of consumer cybersecurity. They are developing an innovative browser-based product designed to safeguard users from escalating online threats. The company recently announced a successful seed funding round, raising $6 million led by Sequoia Capital Southeast Asia. The raised capital will fuel research and development, bolster engineering efforts, and support the go-to-market strategy.
Addressing the New Age Threat Landscape
In the current era of cloud services and Software as a Service (SaaS), web browsers have become the primary gateway for a host of online activities. However, as browsers evolve into the new “operating system,” they have also become the prime target for cyber threats, including phishing, identity theft, session hijacking, and other browser-based attacks.

Regrettably, current cybersecurity solutions, designed to tackle older threats like file viruses, worms, and network attacks, are ill-equipped to address these new-age threats. They often block access to non-malicious files and resources, thus impeding productivity and prompting users to disable them. This leaves users exposed and susceptible to attacks, creating an environment where an average internet user feels unsafe online.
Ground-Up Approach to Counter Current Threats
SquareX is setting out to solve this problem by building a cybersecurity solution from scratch. Designed to confront contemporary threats, SquareX’s product integrates with browsers as an extension, monitoring, and protecting users during their online activities. Leveraging its cloud service, SquareX enables users to open links and files in disposable browsers, effectively neutralizing any potential threats before they reach the user’s device.
Vivek Ramachandran, Founder of SquareX, is passionate about creating a safer online world. With his two-decade-long experience in cybersecurity, Vivek aims to empower internet users to embrace the full potential of the web without fearing threats and attacks. He says,
We are driven by our vision to create a digital world where users can embrace the full potential of the internet, unburdened by the ever-growing threats that lurk beneath the surface. We want to enable users to envision a digital landscape where users can confidently engage with the internet without the fear of threats and attacks or having their personal information exposed. By creating a seamless, browser-integrated cybersecurity solution, we are empowering consumers to be fearless online and take control of their own security on the internet. We believe that a safer internet experience is not only possible but essential, and SquareX is dedicated to making it a reality for everyone.

Anandamoy Rowchowdhary, Partner Surge at Sequoia Southeast Asia, believes SquareX is paving the way towards a safer online world.
SquareX is the first solution we’ve seen that takes a 100% protection approach – where irrespective of how new and sophisticated the attack is, it has no chance to infect users. This is the future we think all internet users deserve.
