In an era where art transcends visual boundaries, Asian Paints and St+art India Foundation have embarked on a noble journey with Project Sparsh. This initiative is a beacon of hope and creativity for visually impaired children, offering them a unique way to experience the beauty and joy of art through touch.
Bridging Gaps with Tactile Murals
At the heart of Jaipur lies the Rajasthan Netraheen Kalyan Sangh, a school dedicated to transforming the lives of visually impaired students for over 50 years. In a collaborative effort, Asian Paints and St+art India Foundation have introduced an artistic revolution within these walls. They’ve created tactile murals using the Royale Play range of textured paints from Asian Paints. These aren’t just murals; they are a tactile language that students can touch, feel, and interpret, thus opening a new dimension of art for them.
Outdoor Art: A Symphony of Touch and Tradition
The outdoor mural is a testament to inclusivity, blending the traditional Rajasthani textile technique of Bandhej with Braille. This fusion not only represents the cultural heritage of Rajasthan but also reinforces the mission of “Art For All.” The mural is a tangible statement of inclusivity, allowing students to experience joy and belonging through the rich narratives of Rajasthani artisans.

Indoor Art: A Sensory Exploration
The initiative goes beyond outdoor experiences. Inside, an “Art Museum” awaits these children with varying degrees of visual impairment. This indoor mural is an odyssey through Rajasthan’s art and culture, integrated with Braille for comprehensive understanding. From the stories of Kathputli to the classic Blue Pottery and Phad Paintings, the mural is a sensory feast, inviting students to touch, feel, and immerse in a world of artistic wonder.
Art Workshop: Unleashing Creativity
Sparsh also includes an art workshop under the Access for All program, showcasing artworks created by the students. This platform is a celebration of creativity, where textured paints and inspiration converge to create memorable experiences. It’s a testament to the innate ability of every child to find joy and express themselves uniquely.
Voices of Vision: Leaders on Sparsh
Amit Syngle, MD & CEO of Asian Paints Ltd., speaks passionately about Sparsh, highlighting it as a representation of empathy and creativity. He emphasizes the initiative’s role in redefining art and making it accessible through tactile murals that narrate captivating stories accessible to all.
Giulia Ambrogi, Curator & Co-founder of St+art India Foundation, reflects on Sparsh’s essence. She notes its defiance of traditional ‘Do Not Touch’ art norms and its role in making art a universal language. Sparsh is more than an initiative; it’s a movement towards an inclusive and shared human experience.
Sparsh stands as a testament to the power of art in bridging gaps and creating a world where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can experience the joy and beauty of creativity. It’s a step towards a more inclusive society, where art is not just seen but felt and where every touch tells a story.
