In comparison to 2022, the percentage of users has decreased this year.
Research has indicated that just about 84.7 percent of Singapore’s population, or about 5.08 million people, are regular users of social media. Digital 2023, a collaborative report by We Are Social and Meltwater, found that Singapore’s social media user base shrank to 5.2 million in 2023 from 5.3 million in 2022. In terms of percentage, this represented 89.5% of the entire population. Despite the decrease in social media users from 2022 to 2023, digital media still maintains a significant presence in Singapore.
In terms of overall population, 59.4 percent of the world’s 4.76 billion inhabitants are active social media users. United Arab Emirates (105.5%), South Korea (92%), Hong Kong (89.9%), the Netherlands (88.1%), Canada (85.7%), and Germany (85.5%) have the greatest penetration rates of social media users. Singapore came in at number eight, behind the likes of Norway (84.5%), Taiwan, and the United Kingdom (84.4%). Despite its relatively low percentage, Singapore’s digital media penetration rate still puts it ahead of many other countries.
