Singapore reigns supreme in the 2023 Asia Pacific AI Readiness Index released by Salesforce, boasting an impressive score of 70.1, making strides from its 2021 score of 65.6. Japan and China secure the second and third spots respectively.
Deciphering the Index: Business vs. Government AI Readiness
This third edition of the bi-annual index elaborates on AI readiness using 15 statistical indicators. On the business front, Singapore, with a score of 53.6, outpaces China and South Korea. In the realm of government AI readiness, Singapore, yet again, tops the chart with an impressive 86.5, with Australia and Japan trailing behind. Singapore’s ascent can be attributed to initiatives like the National AI Strategy and the AI Verify Foundation.
The AI Readiness Disparity in the APAC Region
A widening gap between mature and emerging digital economies in their AI adoption readiness is evident. Notably, Southeast Asian nations, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam, lag behind the Asia Pacific average. Yet, the introduction of national AI policies in these countries hints at potential growth in the near future.
Generative AI: The Game-Changer
The disruptive nature of Generative AI is reshaping perspectives on AI. McKinsey’s projection is staggering, estimating an economic boost ranging from US$2.6 trillion to US$4.4 trillion for the Asia-Pacific region by 2030, thanks to generative AI. However, this surge demands specific prerequisites like robust infrastructure, quality data, skilled workforce, ethical considerations, and seamless integration.
