The cost of living is going up, which is a problem, especially for people with less money. And as helpless consumers, there doesn’t seem to be much we can do except find a job that pays more or ask the government for help.
But the good news is that inflation isn’t always going to happen. Prices for food and energy will stop going up, and wages will catch up to inflation.
And until then, the best thing we can do is learn how to be smart shoppers. We’re lucky to live in a time when there’s an app for everything, including fighting inflation.
Praise Price Kaki!
So, what does an app called “our price buddy” actually do?
Case released the Price Kaki app in 2019. It currently covers more than 10,000 items, such as groceries and household items sold at supermarkets, and more than 31,000 cooked items sold at foodcourts, hawker centres, and coffee shops.
Users can also see how much over 1,200 grocery items cost per unit and also be informed when prices change.
But will Price Kaki’s prices be up-to-date? No one wants old listings, especially when there’s a discount involved.
Perhaps this is why Price Kaki gives users vouchers for groceries, movies, or transportation when they share and add new information to keep the site up to date.
Price Kaki has been around since 2019, but the app has never seemed more useful than it does now, when inflation is rising and every dollar counts.
We no longer have to go to each supermarket individually to find the best deal. Instead, we can use the app to filter and sort listings by price and distance and compare the prices of different supermarkets.

This will save us not only money, but also time when we plan to go shopping or out to lunch.
Due to the war in Ukraine and problems with the supply chain, inflationary pressure will continue to hurt our budgets in the short term.
As consumers, we can’t change the things happening around the world that cause inflationary pressure. But with Price Kaki, we can learn to shop smarter.
We won’t pay more than we have to if we can get as close as possible to perfect information, which means knowing all market prices. This is especially true now that dishonest retailers are using the recent GST increase as an excuse to raise prices without reason.
