In a move that transcends traditional festive greetings, RHB Bank, in collaboration with creative agency FCB SHOUT, has unveiled a poignant film for Chinese New Year, titled ‘Acceptance’. This groundbreaking project tells the inspiring story of Beatrice Leong, an autistic rights activist and filmmaker, who embraced her diagnosis in her 30s, transforming her life and becoming a voice for the autistic community in Malaysia.
Seeing the World Through Different Eyes
Directed and narrated by Leong herself, ‘Acceptance’ offers viewers a unique perspective, shot entirely from the first-person point of view. This innovative approach invites the audience to see the world through Leong’s eyes, providing a deeper understanding of how individuals with autism perceive their surroundings.
A Journey from Isolation to Advocacy
The film delves into Leong’s struggles with feeling different and misunderstood by society. Her journey of self-discovery following her autism diagnosis is a testament to resilience and empowerment. Leong’s activism, particularly for women with autism, highlights her commitment to fostering a more inclusive society. Her efforts culminated in the establishment of the ‘Autism Inclusiveness Direct Action Group’, an NGO dedicated to advocating for autistic representation in media and policy-making.
RHB’s Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
Abdul Sani Abdul Murad, Group Chief Marketing Officer of RHB Banking Group, emphasized the bank’s dedication to progress for all, highlighting ‘Acceptance’ as a reflection of their ongoing efforts to support the neurodiverse community. “This film is a heartfelt reminder to celebrate our true selves, aligning with our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives,” Murad stated.
