Following the official statement from the Home Ministry, it’s confirmed that Tan Sri Razarudin Husain will lead Malaysia’s police force as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP). His term, approved by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, commences from June 23, 2023, and will continue until June 22, 2025.
Razarudin, currently the deputy IGP, is set to continue on a contract after retirement basis. Born in Dengkil, Selangor, in 1963, the 61-year-old holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences (Police Studies) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Since launching his career as an investigating officer in 1984, Razarudin has served in various capacities, including Kudat chief of police, Sabah deputy commissioner of police, and Bukit Aman NCID director.

In conjunction with Razarudin’s promotion, the ministry also announced the appointment of Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, the current director of the federal Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID), as the new Deputy IGP, effective from June 23, 2023.
Ayob Khan, born in Kota Setar, Kedah, in 1966, earned a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. His impressive career trajectory began at the Bukit Aman special branch in 1993, leading him to become the special branch’s deputy commissioner of police in 2016 and later, the Johor police chief.
This strategic reshuffle follows the early retirement of Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani from his IGP position, which was originally scheduled to end in October.
