The iconic Race Of Champions (ROC) is breaking new ground, bringing its high-octane competition to Australia for the very first time. Slated for March 7th and 8th, 2025, the event will take place at Accor Stadium in Sydney. This marks a significant milestone for ROC, which has previously captivated audiences with races held at prestigious venues around the globe, from Beijing’s Bird’s Nest Olympic Stadium to the Arctic Circle in Sweden.
A New Challenge on Australian Soil
After its previous editions amidst the icy landscapes of Sweden in 2022 and 2023, the ROC is making a 15,000-kilometer journey across the globe to the sunlit arena of Accor Stadium. This shift in scenery brings a fresh challenge for racers as they navigate the specially constructed track under Sydney’s iconic skyline.
A Legacy of Racing Greats
With roots tracing back to 1988, the ROC has been a stage for the world’s top drivers to compete head-to-head in a thrilling format. The competition unites motorsport legends like Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, Jimmie Johnson, and Travis Pastrana, testing their skills in a format where champions from various disciplines—Formula 1, IndyCar, Nascar, World Rally, and more—face off for glory.
Quotes from the Organizers and Racers
Fredrik Johnsson, President and Co-Founder of Race Of Champions, expressed his excitement: “We are incredibly excited to bring the Race Of Champions to Australia for the first time ever. ROC has always been about pushing drivers to their limits in unique conditions. Australia has a rich motorsport heritage, and we’re looking forward to celebrating that by pitting some of the best Australian drivers against some of the world’s most legendary racing stars in a spectacular showdown in the middle of Accor Stadium.”
7-time V8 Supercars Champion Jamie Whincup shared his enthusiasm: “I had a great time competing at the Race Of Champions World Finals in Bangkok and Barbados. I’m thrilled to be part of the ROC driver line up again in 2025, especially with the event being hosted in Sydney. Competing alongside some of the best drivers in the world from so many different racing series is always an incredible challenge, and representing Australian motorsport on home soil now that ROC comes to Australia for the first time makes it even more special. I can’t wait to get out there and give it everything for the Aussie fans.”
Mick Doohan, 5-time MotoGP World Champion, added: “It’s great news that the Race Of Champions is finally coming here to Australia for the first time. I’ve truly enjoyed my participations in the event in the past. ROC’s concept with drivers from different forms of motorsport competing head-to-head inside a stadium with the spectators so close to the action creates a fantastic atmosphere both for the drivers and fans.”
Two Nights of Thrilling Motorsport Action
The event will unfold over two nights, offering fans an unforgettable experience. On March 7th, the ROC Nations Cup will see drivers teaming up based on nationality, vying for the title of “World’s Fastest Nation.” The following night, March 8th, will shift to the fiercely competitive individual races, where teamwork takes a backseat, and drivers go all out to win the coveted “Champion of Champions” title.
Celebrating Australian Motorsport on the Global Stage
The arrival of ROC in Sydney also offers a unique opportunity to spotlight Australia’s own motorsport heritage. Local champions will compete against global stars, giving fans a chance to witness their favorites racing head-to-head with international icons. As NSW Minister for Sport Steve Kamper put it:
“The Race of Champions is an incredibly exciting and new event for Sydney. This is an event like no other with the world’s best drivers to go head-to-head on Australian soil for the first time – it will be a spectacle not to be missed.”
