Malaysia expects to exceed its international tourist arrival target for this year. The Director General of Tourism Malaysia, Datuk Ammar Abdul Ghapar, stated that the country aims to reach at least 18 million visitors. This is a substantial increase from the initial target of 16.1 million tourists.
The new target considers various factors. These include the increase in airline frequency and the expansion of chartered operating flights. The appeal of year-end holidays is another factor expected to boost visitor numbers.
Datuk Ammar expressed optimism about the target. “We hope to get 18 million tourists this year. It’s more than what we targeted, and we are very optimistic about it,” he said. He spoke at the Jordan Tourism Board Road Show and Business Dinner in Kuala Lumpur.

The first quarter of 2022 saw 4.5 million tourist arrivals in Malaysia. Datuk Ammar also revealed that an announcement about incentives for chartered flight operators would be coming soon. He emphasized that Malaysia must expand beyond scheduled flights to boost tourism.
Bilal highlighted tourism’s vital role in modern economies. He mentioned Jordan’s heavy investment in tourism, especially after launching its Economic Modernisation Vision 2030. He added that Jordan and Malaysia, both moderate Muslim countries, have enjoyed steady diplomatic relations since 1965. They will celebrate their 60th diplomatic anniversary in two years.
Malaysia’s tourism sector shows promising growth, with collaborations and strategies aligning with its booming economy.
