Malaysia Airlines is making strides towards sustainability by initiating a voluntary carbon offset program. Developed in partnership with Norway-based climate tech company, CHOOOSE, the program enables customers to calculate, understand, and offset carbon emissions associated with their flights. This marks a significant step in Malaysia Aviation Group’s (MAG) journey towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Through the program, customers will gain visibility into the carbon emissions of their flights during the booking process. They also have the option to offset these emissions by supporting carbon projects certified by internationally recognized standards and in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The funds will support initiatives that mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.

Group Chief Sustainability Officer at MAG, Philip See, emphasized the program’s aim to provide transparency and foster sustainable travel choices. He said, “The program will offer insights into the carbon impact of their journeys, encouraging customers to align their travel choices with their environmental values.”
MAG, in collaboration with industry experts, selected climate projects from the ASEAN region. These initiatives, besides their climate impact, focus on protecting and restoring peatland ecosystems, reducing deforestation and degradation, and improving the livelihoods of marginalized communities.
The announcement follows a recent partnership between MAG and CHOOOSE to develop a climate software solution. Andreas Slettvol, CHOOOSE’s CEO and founder, lauded the alliance, noting the growing demand for transparency around carbon emissions and the critical role such partnerships play in achieving industry-wide sustainable travel options.
