OpenMinds Group, one of Southeast Asia’s leading MarTech companies, and Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU), one of Malaysia’s highest-rated private universities, today announced a partnership in developing creative content production in the digital space for Malaysian SMEs. This new initiative will be branded as OpenCreative, which is a significant collaboration that brings together APU to work together with OpenMinds Group and SMEs in developing high-quality creative content production at a competitive price.
OpenMinds Group and OpenCreative aim to tap into Malaysia’s next generation of creative talent with this partnership. Under the tutelage of experienced creative leads, APU students will play an active role in creating content marketing products for SMEs. This involvement aims to provide students with practical real-world experiences, enhancing both their hard and soft skills. In addition to the hands-on involvement of APU students, the team at OpenMinds Group will also conduct meticulous quality checks to ensure their work will comply with the highest standards.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ho Chin Kuan said, “We are excited about our partnership with OpenMinds Group as it aligns seamlessly with APU’s mission of empowering graduates with the skills needed to excel in global business and society. Specifically focusing on technology, innovation, and creativity, this collaboration aims to equip students with the practical skills essential for making meaningful contributions to their industries, subsequently enhancing their employability. We look forward to the positive impact this partnership will bring to both of our operations.”

The services offered include creative content creation, such as copywriting, short videos, and graphic design. Additionally, custom content calendars and content advisory services are also available, with packages starting from as low as RM 1500 per month. These new services under OpenCreative, allow SMEs to tap into the experience and world-class process that OpenMinds Group has developed.
The end goal of this project is to empower the creative community, regardless of professional experience, while also setting a better standard of quality for creative content among Malaysian SMEs in the digital space. This initiative also perfectly aligns with Malaysia’s goal of upskilling its youths through experiential learning and real-world skill development, as highlighted by the former Human Resource Minister, to increase graduate and overall workforce employability.
Bridging the untapped digital content marketing among Malaysian SMEs
As Malaysia experiences rapid technological growth, digital marketing becomes crucial for the survival of SMEs. Despite the swift expansion of the country’s digital economy, there are still noticeable digital gaps. According to a survey, 98.5 per cent of businesses in Malaysia are SMEs, yet 21.7 per cent of them have not embarked on any form of digitisation.
Randy Too, OpenCreative Director and Co-Founder of OpenMinds Group said, “Many SMEs in Malaysia continue to rely heavily on traditional marketing strategies. Digital marketing may seem complicated and challenging to understand initially, as the strategies might not immediately make sense to some individuals. Leveraging our experience from various projects with companies across industries over the past 12 years, we are eager to extend our marketing impact to SMEs in Malaysia. Collaborating with APU to enhance creative content production will not only aid Malaysian SMEs in spearheading digital transformation but will also establish a new standard for the quality of creative content in the country. We are honored to work with the talented students at APU and anticipate creating a generation of independent creative individuals in the future.”
