India’s feature phone landscape is on the brink of welcoming a new entrant, the Jio Bharat B2, poised to succeed the Jio Bharat B1 with notable enhancements. While official confirmation from the company is pending, the buzz around this upcoming handset has been fueled by its sighting on a certification site, hinting at an imminent launch.
A Glimpse into the Future
Speculation around the Jio Bharat B2’s features suggests a commitment to building upon the foundation laid by its predecessor. The Jio Bharat B1, launched in October last year, set a benchmark with its 4G connectivity and an integrated UPI payment feature, catering to the diverse linguistic landscape of India with support for multiple regional languages.
Certification and Speculation
Reports from 91Mobiles Hindi have identified a new Jio Phone model, labeled JBB121B1, on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) website. Although details remain scarce, the anticipation grows for what is believed to be the Jio Bharat B2. This upcoming model promises to expand on the specifications and features that defined the Jio Bharat B1, with more information expected to be disclosed by the company in due course.
The Legacy of Jio Bharat B1
The Jio Bharat B1 offered users a 2.4-inch QVGA display and operated on the Threadx RTOS system. It boasted modest hardware including 50MB of RAM and essential connectivity options such as Bluetooth, 4G, Wi-Fi, and USB, accommodating a single nano SIM card. A 2,000mAh battery provided a substantial standby time of up to 343 hours, complemented by an unspecified rear camera unit. Pre-installed apps like JioCinema and JioSaavn enhanced the entertainment value, while JioPay facilitated convenient UPI transactions.
