BENGALURU: A remarkable feat has been accomplished with the inauguration of India’s first 3D printed post office in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, on August 18, unveiled this masterpiece built with 3D Concrete Printing Technology.

In the bustling area of Cambridge Layout, Halasuru, the 1,000 square feet post office was designed and finished using this revolutionary technology in a tight timeframe of just 45 days. This symbolizes the spirit of development and technology that was once considered impossible.

According to L&T, the technology of 3D concrete printing is emerging and has the potential to transform construction practices. It accelerates the construction process and enhances overall build quality. This technology has previously been utilized in the creation of India’s first 3D printed house at IIT Madras and the Indian Army’s 3D printed dwelling unit.
How Does 3D Concrete Printing Work?
Unlike conventional methods, 3D printing uses a robotic arm to lay specialized concrete mixtures. The technology can be divided into two main systems:
A gantry-based system with expansive cranes
Robotic arms that dispense the concrete mixture
For the post office project, a robotic arm was employed to execute the 3D-printing process. This combination of technology and human expertise is pushing the construction industry into a new age of innovation and efficiency.
