On Tuesday, Google introduced its Gemini app in India, supporting both English and nine Indian languages, transforming how users interact with artificial intelligence (AI). The app allows users to seek answers through typing, talking, or uploading an image. Alongside the standard version, Google unveiled Gemini Advanced, providing access to the company’s most sophisticated AI models. This enhanced service is designed to facilitate information access and task completion in the user’s language of choice, according to a blog post by Google. The Gemini app supports Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
“Exciting news! Today we’re launching the Gemini mobile app in India, available in English and nine Indian languages. We’re also adding these local languages to Gemini Advanced, plus other new features, and launching Gemini in Google Messages in English,” said Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, on X (formerly Twitter).
The company also introduced new functionalities for Gemini Advanced, a subscription-based AI chatbot, including data analysis and file uploads. “We’re also introducing Gemini in Google Messages to give you another way to collaborate with Gemini on your phone. Get help drafting messages, brainstorming ideas, or planning events – all without leaving the Messages app. We’ll be rolling out Gemini in Google Messages in English to start with, on select devices,” announced Google. Gemini Advanced will also support the nine Indian languages.
“…Gemini Advanced boasts the longest context of any widely available consumer chatbot worldwide,” Google stated. The app enables users to engage with the AI through multiple modes such as typing, talking, or image uploads.
“Take a picture of a flat tyre for instructions on how to change it, or get help writing that perfect thank-you note – the possibilities are endless. This marks a significant step forward in our journey to build a truly conversational, multimodal, and helpful AI assistant,” Google added.
Android users can download the Gemini app or activate it via Google Assistant. For iOS users, Gemini will become accessible through the Google app in the upcoming weeks.
“Privacy is a top priority. Gemini keeps your files private to you, and they’re not used to train our models,” Google emphasized.
