Being a leader requires a lot of work.
Being a leader requires a lot of work. It’s not just about having a title, screaming out orders and basking in the glory. Sometimes you have to actually do research and come up with solutions to very real problems. This is why you get paid “the big bucks”.
As a young leader, I would read leadership books and would immediately try to apply principles that I was drawn to. But I would always put a twist on them because I had a couple of artists I managed, who were smarty pants and they would always read the books that I was reading.
This was my fault because I taught them 2 things:
- If you ever wanted to be like a leader that you admire, read what they read and
- If you ever want to defeat your enemy, look into their library see what books they’ve read – then read them too
Staying ahead of these guys wasn’t easy but it helped me to create a system that I coined as “Extreme Management”.
It has made me look like a genius many times and gotten me results in ways no book could ever explain.
As a leader, do you rely solely on textbook applications or have you dabbled in Extreme Management?
