Elon Musk, the renowned entrepreneur behind Tesla and SpaceX, unexpectedly visited the Texas-Mexico border this Thursday to gain firsthand insight into the border situation and broadcast live interviews from the location.
Sporting a black cowboy hat and sunglasses, Musk uploaded a candid video on X, engaging with local officials and migrants. He emphasized the unedited nature of the livestream, aiming to provide an authentic glimpse into the ongoing events.
Musk shared his stance on immigration, advocating for an enhanced legal immigration system that welcomes diligent and upright migrants. At the same time, he emphasized the need to prevent unlawful entries, expressing concerns about the strain on social services due to massive influxes.
This visit coincides with a surge in migrants traveling to northern Mexico, many of whom have recently crossed into Texas, Arizona, and California, seeking asylum in the U.S.
In Eagle Pass, Musk engaged with local leaders and law enforcement, particularly around areas where migrants have been crossing the Rio Grande river. He expressed gratitude for their insights and commended their dedication.
Musk’s political engagements aren’t new. He previously hosted the launch of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s Republican presidential campaign on X, which overwhelmed the platform. Additionally, he declined a request from Ukraine to utilize his Starlink satellite network for defense purposes against Russia and held discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about balancing free speech and countering hate speech on X.
Born in South Africa and an immigrant to the U.S., Musk has consistently voiced his support for immigrants, emphasizing their pivotal role in fostering innovation and driving economic progress.
