Asia-Pacific’s one of the largest investor-owned power companies, CLP Holdings, has made an announcement of a significant executive change. Effective from 1 October, the head of CLP’s Hong Kong unit, Chiang Tung Keung, will step into the position of group CEO, making him the first Chinese national to take up the role. Chiang succeeds Richard Lancaster, who has been at the helm as CEO and an executive director of CLP since 2013.
Richard Lancaster, however, will continue to be associated with the firm. He will offer his valuable insights as an advisor to Chiang, remain an executive director on the board of CLP Holdings and serve as a member of its finance and general and sustainability committees until his retirement in May 2024.

Chiang, an industry veteran with over 30 years of experience in engineering, general management and regulatory aspects of the power industry, is currently the managing director of CLP Power Hong Kong. Having joined the company as a graduate trainee in 1988, Chiang has been managing director of CLP Power since 2017, holding overall responsibility for CLP’s Hong Kong electricity business.
The company is confident that Chiang’s substantial experience in senior management roles within CLP will ensure a smooth and effective transition of executive leadership following Lancaster’s step down.
Another notable change announced is the appointment of Law Ka Chun Joseph as the managing director of CLP Power Hong Kong, succeeding Chiang. Law, currently serving as the managing director of CLP’s China unit, has held various senior management positions since joining CLP Power in 2001.
Michael Kadoorie, chairman of CLP, expressed his satisfaction with these internal appointments and stated that it underlines CLP’s commitment towards people development and efficient succession planning. He also extended his gratitude towards Lancaster for his exceptional leadership and commitment, which has seen the company through disruptive years and set it on the course of transformation for future readiness.
