In honour of Malaysia’s 67th Independence Day and Malaysia Day, Malaysia Airports has unveiled an extraordinary cultural and gastronomic initiative at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). Running from 20 August to 20 September 2024, the ‘Warisan Kulinari Kita’ campaign offers travellers a captivating experience of Malaysia’s diverse culinary heritage.
Uniting Cultures Through Flavours
Malaysia Airports invites visitors and travellers to indulge in the richness of traditional Malaysian dishes through an array of exciting activities. Central to the experience is the Rumah Kampung Limas, a life-sized traditional kampung house in KLIA’s Departure Hall. This display celebrates Malaysia’s cherished culinary heritage by showcasing the distinctive foods that unite Malaysians across all backgrounds. From Nasi Lemak and Nasi Kerabu to Chinese Chicken Rice and Indian Nasi Biryani, the campaign aims to highlight rice-based dishes from across the nation.
For the first time ever, KLIA features an installation of a paddy field, symbolising Malaysia’s staple food, rice, and further connecting travellers to the country’s agricultural roots. This unique installation is a visual feast, representing the role rice plays in the nation’s unity and its cultural and culinary significance.
Immersive Culinary Experiences
Visitors are invited to explore Taman Herba (Herbs Garden), where they can learn about Malaysia’s use of locally sourced ingredients, including butterfly pea flower, pandan, and hibiscus. Live cooking demonstrations will allow guests to see how these herbs are used in both traditional and modern Malaysian dishes. Informational boards will provide further insights into the rich variety of herbs and ingredients unique to Malaysia.
Malaysia Airports’ Senior General Manager of Commercial Services, Hani Ezra Hussin, shared, “Malaysians’ deep passion for food unites us, and this Independence Day and Malaysia Day, we proudly showcase our culinary treasures on the world stage while empowering local F&B businesses. As the gateway to the nation, we’ve reimagined our retail landscape to offer an immersive cultural experience that captivates travellers and locals alike.”
