Kuala Lumpur, October 15, 2024 – Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) made a remarkable return to the competitive badminton scene by clinching the Premier Cup Challenge Trophy at the CTOS Inter-Financial Institutions Badminton Championship 2024. This victory comes after a seven-year absence from the championship, with BSN last winning the coveted title in 2017.
In a nail-biting final, BSN defeated Alliance Bank, the defending champions, securing not only the Premier Cup Trophy but also a cash prize of RM6,000, along with medals and sports products from MAXX Sport. Alliance Bank, as the first runner-up, walked away with RM4,000, while Maybank and RHB finished third and fourth, claiming RM3,000 and RM2,000, respectively.
The Plate Cup Championship saw HSBC Bank dominate Bank Rakyat, earning them the champion’s title and a RM1,500 cash reward, while Bank Rakyat secured RM1,000 for their efforts.
A Platform for Sports and Financial Health
This year’s event, held at Arena Sukan Kuala Lumpur, brought together 24 teams from across the financial sector, including first-time participants YTL Digital Bank. The competition, co-organised by Alliance Bank and CTOS, has grown in popularity since its inception, and CTOS continues to play a pivotal role as the title sponsor, marking its sixth consecutive year of involvement.
Eric Chin, CEO of CTOS Data Systems, expressed his enthusiasm for supporting the event, highlighting the importance of promoting healthier lifestyles within the financial community. “We at CTOS are glad to support this championship since 2017 as a platform to promote healthier lifestyles among financial institutions and regulators through badminton – one of Malaysia’s favourite sports. I am pleased to see that all of us here in this badminton arena take physical health as seriously as we regard the topic of financial health in our work.”
Chin further emphasised the significance of financial institutions evolving with the changing landscape to ensure greater financial inclusion. “Our aim therefore would be to promote the same principles of good financial health to our stakeholders, especially the end-consumers. We at CTOS are committed to advancing this agenda, and look forward to closer collaboration with each financial institution and regulator to do just that.”
