The US State Department has voiced concern over North Korea’s potential plan to send further armaments to Russia, following an affirmation from North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, to enhance strategic alliances with Moscow.
Kim Jong-un declared his commitment to Putin in a message marking Russia’s National Day, as reported by North Korea’s KCNA state news agency. He pressed for stronger strategic collaboration with Russia, aiming to achieve the common objective of building a powerful nation, hand in hand with the Russian president.
Despite North Korea’s denial of weapons trade with Russia amidst the ongoing Ukraine conflict, the US confirmed an arms shipment, including infantry rockets and missiles, delivered to the Wagner mercenary group backed by the Kremlin in November 2022. The State Department spokesperson voiced apprehensions that North Korea, officially known as the DPRK, is plotting to supply more military equipment to Russia.

Amidst accusations of US hegemony and the West’s high-handedness, North Korea has striven to tighten its relationship with the Kremlin, siding with Moscow post the Ukraine invasion. The US unveiled in March new intelligence suggesting Russia’s active attempts to procure more weapons from North Korea, offering food aid in exchange.
Washington sanctioned a Slovakian individual in March, who allegedly attempted to arrange a sale of various types of North Korean weapons and ammunitions to Russia, intending to replenish Moscow’s military equipment lost during the war with Ukraine.
