On Tuesday, Amazon India announced a significant expansion of its Amazon Fresh grocery service to over 130 cities, reaching new areas such as Ambala, Aurangabad, Hoshiarpur, Dharwad, Una, and Suri. Previously, the service was operational in more than 60 cities nationwide.
Amazon Fresh provides a comprehensive range of grocery items, including both wet and dry goods, fresh fruits and vegetables sourced from 11,000 farmers, chilled items, and a selection of beauty, baby, personal care, and pet products.
This expansion reflects Amazon’s response to growing competition in the grocery sector, where it faces rivals like Flipkart, Reliance’s JioMart, Tata Digital’s BigBasket, and quick-commerce services such as Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, and Zomato-owned Blinkit.
Flipkart’s grocery division, present in over 200 cities, has seen significant growth, reporting a 1.6-fold increase in its grocery sales during the fiscal year 2023-24 compared to the year before. Flipkart also provides flexible delivery options, ranging from early morning to late evening, and has introduced same-day delivery in 20 cities for a variety of products including mobile phones, essential items, and home appliances.
Meanwhile, Amazon Fresh differentiates itself with quick delivery options, offering same-day delivery within four hours and, in certain areas, even faster two-hour delivery slots.
