McDonald’s Taiwan has teamed up with Leo Burnett Taiwan to launch a new initiative called ‘Donation Wallpaper’ in an effort to increase charitable giving to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) and make receipts visible again.
In Taiwan, receipts are not just pieces of paper; they’re also a chance to win big in the government’s Receipt Lottery. However, with the rise of digital payments, donated receipts to charities like RMHC have all but disappeared, making them out of sight and out of mind.

To address this issue, McDonald’s Taiwan and Leo Burnett Taiwan worked with new media artists to create a series of 35 downloadable wallpapers, each of which serves as a digital lottery ticket. Every Donation Wallpaper includes a barcode that, when scanned at any cashier, automatically donates the receipt to RMHC.
Jin Yang, Creative Partner at Leo Burnett Taiwan, said that Donation Wallpaper makes receipt donations impossible to ignore: “Gen Z can’t live without their phone, and the screen they see most of all is their mobile phone wallpaper. With this in mind, we came up with an idea that makes receipt donation impossible to ignore: “Every time someone wakes up their phone, it’s a reminder to do good.”

Since Donation Wallpaper was released, the number of online donations to RMHC has grown by a lot. More wallpapers will be released throughout the year. The initiative has made it easy to do good in a digital world, as every transaction in any store becomes an opportunity to donate to RMHC.
Donation Wallpaper is a unique solution that makes receipts visible again and increases charitable giving, making it a win-win for everyone involved.
