The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) helped Meta, which used to be called Facebook, launch its “Creator Academy” in Malaysia. The goal of the academy is to give new and aspiring creators in the country free training and support. This will give them the chance to learn from more experienced peers in their area, grow their audience, build a strong personal brand, and turn their passions into careers.
Diverse Participation
Over 100 creators from different fields, like food, fashion, lifestyle, music, and new formats like augmented reality (AR) and digital collectibles, have visited the academy. The academy is made for Malaysian creators who are just starting out and wants to help them learn more about the tools and products that Facebook and Instagram have for creators.
Meta’s Recent Initiatives
The “Creators of Tomorrow” campaign was one of Meta’s recent projects in Malaysia. It highlighted new talent from all over the world, including five very talented Malaysian creators. The first APAC “Creator Week” in Bali, Indonesia, featured Malaysian creators among more than 120 other creators from the region.
Scaling Local Educational Resources
After the launch, Meta wants to make local educational resources, practises, and the most recent events available online and offline. This will help reach and support more Malaysian creators who are just starting out. The “Creator Economy” presents enormous potential for Malaysia’s creative and digital industries as well as for the country’s economy as a whole.
The “Creator Economy” will be worth more than US$100 billion, according to “The Rise of the Creator Economy,” a study that Meta commissioned in 2022. There are more than 300 million creators in the world, according to a 2022 survey by Edelman Data and Intelligence for Adobe.
Philip Chua, Meta APAC’s director of Instagram public policy, said, “Creators come to Facebook and Instagram to tell their stories, connect with communities, and build a career. Whether they are just starting out, or are further along, we want to support them in accomplishing their goals.”
Meta’s Aim
In order for creators to be at the forefront of tomorrow’s opportunities and innovations, Meta hopes to support them in upskilling and gaining access to best practises, knowledge, and resources through its Creator Academy. No other platform has made as much of an investment in creators as Meta has, giving them a base to develop communities and produce interesting content using a variety of content formats and creative tools.
Raymond Siva, MDEC’s Chief Digital Investment Officer, said, “In Malaysia, the creator economy has been growing quickly and changing, with a wide range of creators, platforms, and support systems coming up to meet the needs of this industry. MDEC continues to rally and support initiatives that nurture digital opportunities for the gig economy to thrive.”
