In a recent media briefing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Red Hat shared about the Open Innovation Labs methodology with the local media. Sandra Arps, the Head of Delivery, Open Innovation Labs at Red Hat highlighted that the lab is designed to provide a collaborative, residency-style immersive environment that promotes rapid innovation and development.
Launched in 2017 in APAC, Red Hat Open Innovation Labs is designed to provide a collaborative, residency-styled, immersive environment that promotes rapid innovation and development across Asia Pacific. The Open Innovation Labs engagement begins with a short on-site discovery session to set goals and expectations. Then, using Red Hat’s push button infrastructure and automated development environments, teams quickly start development, resulting in quick time to value and measurable outcomes.
Benjamin Henshall, General Manager, Red Hat South East Asia shared that as Malaysian customers accelerate their digital transformation journey, they are showing interest towards adopting holistic and improved ways to foster innovation. Highlighting the local customer feedback, he explained that it’s important for customers to realise that where we create can be just as important as what we create. The lab environment reflects Red Hat’s core tenets: collaboration, sharing, adaptability and renewal.
Whether companies are solving legacy problems, or tackling new challenges, this collaborative engagement will help customers define the path to innovation that delivers business value. During the residency, the team gained first-hand experience on how to apply agile development methodologies and make use of innovative open source technologies to rapidly build prototypes, do DevOps and adopt agile development.
Citing examples across APAC of Heritage Bank from Australia, NSE from India, alongside some of the local projects that are underway, Sandra Arps highlighted that Red Hat is helping teams explore different ways of approaching a problem using agile, lean and design thinking in a span of 6-8 weeks. Such an immersive programme offers customers a closer view into how to engage and interact with the open source technologies and fail fast and often to develop a product prototype.
According to Eric Quah, Country Manager, Red Hat Malaysia, at the labs, customer teams work directly with Red Hat consultants and engineers throughout their 6-8 weeks residency. Amidst all of this, nothing is more important than culture. The Open Innovation Labs helps organisations work and have empathy towards one another and create an open culture where people can help each other and collaborate together.
