Singapore, 26 July 2024 – Singapore Changi Airport continues its robust recovery, handling an impressive 16.5 million passenger movements in Q2 2024, marking a 13.4% increase from the same period last year. This volume is a remarkable 98.2% of the passenger movements recorded in Q2 2019. Aircraft movements also saw a significant rise, totaling 89,300 for the quarter, up 9.7% year-on-year, and reaching 94.5% of the figures from the second quarter of 2019.
Changi Airport’s top five markets for Q2 2024 included Indonesia, China, Malaysia, Australia, and India. Notably, China exhibited the highest growth among these markets, with traffic doubling compared to last year and surpassing pre-Covid numbers. North Asia emerged as the fastest-growing region, with a 40.8% year-on-year increase, also exceeding pre-Covid levels.
During this period, Changi Airport handled 486,000 tonnes of airfreight, a 16% increase from last year. This growth was driven by robust cargo flows between Singapore, China, and the United States. Changi’s top air cargo markets were Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, and the United States.

Mr. Lim Ching Kiat, Changi Airport Group’s Executive Vice President for Air Hub and Cargo Development, stated, “Changi Airport continues to expand its global network, having added more flights in the second quarter. Travellers can now explore more destinations with Changi’s connectivity to cities such as Broome, Brussels, Quanzhou, and Vancouver, and enjoy more options to evergreen favourites like Tokyo and London. Together with our airline partners, we are striving towards full travel recovery by the end of this year.”
As of 1 July, 94 airlines operate over 6,900 weekly scheduled flights at Changi Airport, connecting Singapore to 158 cities in 50 countries and territories worldwide.
Other Highlights at Changi
New and Reinstated Services
Changi Airport welcomed Shandong Airlines, which began 3x weekly services between Jinan and Singapore on 19 April, and Air Japan with 5x weekly services between Tokyo Narita Airport and Singapore on 26 April. Emirates extended one of its four daily Dubai-Singapore services to Phnom Penh on 1 May. Scoot’s new Embraer E190-E2 launched inaugural flights to Krabi and Hat Yai on 7 May, and added routes to Koh Samui and Sibu. Singapore Airlines introduced non-stop services between London Gatwick and Singapore on 22 June, enhancing its existing 49 weekly services to London Heathrow. Jetstar commenced 2x weekly seasonal flights to Broome, Western Australia, on 25 June.
Changi also resumed services to Jieyang Chaoshan with Spring Airlines’ 4x weekly flights from 31 March, and to Quanzhou with Xiamen Airlines’ 4x weekly services from 24 June.
New Restaurants & Stores
Over 20 new stores and F&B outlets opened or were refurbished across Changi’s four terminals in Q2. New-to-Changi brands such as Chopstix & Rice and Taiwan Culture debuted at Terminal 2, while Ritazza returned to Terminal 3. Popular Asian eateries Papparich and GO Noodle House opened at Terminal 4. In transit areas, luxury retailers Kering Eyewear and Marc Jacobs launched their first Changi boutiques at Terminal 2, and Decathlon and Mr. Bucket Chocolaterie set up pop-ups at Terminal 3.
Jewel Changi Airport introduced 15 new shops and restaurants, including first-in-Singapore outlets like Ipoh Town, Royal Host, and Naixue. New retail additions include Bimba Y Lola, Weston Corp | New Era, and Singapore’s first Satellite Paris store. Collectibles and toy enthusiasts can now visit Otaku House, POP MART, Simply Toys, and more.
